Busy Beaver has been, you know, busy. I’m in New York for non-burlesque work and I thought I’d share some fun stuff from my trip that is relevant to your interests!
I’m staying in midtown, very close to the garment district. I stopped into a trimming and fabric store called Daytona Trimming, which had walls and walls of sequins. And feathers. And beads and tassels and everything you need to make the craziest, most blinged-out costume you could imagine. If you’re a performer or costumer and find yourself in NY, you have to go.
A couple of days ago I caught up with a friend in Union Square where we came upon Forbidden Planet, an awesome bookstore specializing in graphic novels, comic books, science fiction along with toys and collectibles.
This place could very easily have been the Disney store of sci-fi, but it wasn’t. There were more nerds and collectors there than tourists and their selection is amazing. I bought my first Neil Gaiman book (but my 30th Terry Pratchett book), Good Omens. They even had this sweet countdown to NY Comic Con! Definitely recommended. Plus NYU and a gorgeous park nearby, it makes for delightfully hot people-watching.
Finally, on a walk through time square I saw a sign for the the New York Burlesque Festival!
That’s the new from New York. I hope everyone had a killer time at Underground Wonderbar last night and is already gearing up for our October Cabaret. Like Plan 9 Burlesque on Facebook to keep posted!
Sad that you couldn’t make it out to the cabaret? Or maybe you’re hot and bothered by the fact that you have to wait a WHOLE MONTH before the next cabaret? Fear not! You can catch select Performance from Plan 9 at Underground Wonderbar this Saturday! We go on at 12:30. Have a drink, enjoy the show, and come nerd with us!
Knitting a Tom Baker Doctor Who scarf can seem daunting, but this website has got me all jazzed up about it. It’s got multiple patterns for the various versions of the scarf and extensive lists of perfect color-matching yarns. Seriously, this person is like eight different levels of nerd. Plus, his/her patterns are free! Check it out.
We want to extend a HUGE thanks to everyone who came out and saw Now for Something Completely Sexy, Plan 9 Burlesque’s very first cabaret! Check plan9burlesque.com for more info about the company, pictures and the dates of our future events!
